The Journey was born of a dream. Rick Carroway, a Journey founder/volunteer, along with several friends, wanted to bring the Word of God to Lubbock, TX via a concert very similar to Rock The Desert in Midland. Unfortunately, It did not happen. Several years later, Rick married Pam, told her about their hope for Lubbock. Pam supported Rick in every way, however, God's timing is perfect, and Rick could not get it moving. In November 2008, Pam had a dream. It was the concert. She could see people everywhere smiling, and having a great time. She knew there was a purpose for the concert, but did not know what it was. She woke, and told Rick about the dream, who said, "Let's do it!" Pam was working a full time job, and could not see herself taking on such a project. A few weeks later, Pam had the same dream, and she could still see the people enjoying the music, but this time, she could see the band members, knew them by name, and she understood the purpose. In August 2009, the first annual benefit concert was held at Buffalo Springs Lake, and the ministry was the Story Runner division of campus Crusades. In 2010 we stayed a little closer to home, and we have chose unanimously to have Simple Acts Ministry (SAM) as our ministry to benefit. This year we have all chosen to include the Lubbock Boys and Girls club!!
3rd Annual Benefit Concert
Simple Acts Ministry (SAM)
Simple Acts Ministry is a 501C(3) tax-exempt Christian organization formed to witness the love of Christ to the incarcerated and to those released from incarceration working to aid ex-offenders (called SAM Associates) by providing assistance through job help, furniture, counciling, and anything else needed to become established members of the community, and support Christian ministry activities.
SAM grew out of our ministry experiences with prisoners (we call them Sisters and Brothers-in-White) and the need to answer God’s call in Matthew 25:35-36 (35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

The Lubbock Boys & Girls Club began in 1940 with the vision of giving young boys a place to go after school and during the summer months to keep them from becoming juvenile delinquents. Many years later the vision is much the same, but now it also includes girls.
In 1956, Boys Clubs Of America was granted a U.S. congressional charter, the only youth guidance organizations so recognized in more than 40 years.
Today there are over 2,000 Boys and Girls Clubs with membership of more than 3,300,000 boys and girls.
Today our Clubs provide programming in five core areas:
•
Education and Career Development
•
Character and Leadership Development
•
Health and Life Skills
•
The Arts
•
Sports, Fitness and Recreation.
Cost is not a barrier at the Clubs because our school year membership fee is $10 per child. Every child that attends our Clubs will be fed a hot meal through the Kids Café program, and we serve approximately 50,000 meals each year.
The mission at the Boys & Girls Club is to inspire and enable young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Great futures truly do start at the Boys & Girls Club!
